Ravena II (II) Ravena II

I think the photographer used a special lens for this picture because the top of the tall tower to the right in the picture is too distorted. Still a nice place though, also I this that sky is not real either. . .it is a little too perfect...

San Vitale (Ravenna) I scanned from a brochure. Europeans are very good at night lighting their monuments....

The mausoleum of Theodoric. It dates back to about 400 A.D., before the Byzantines recaptured Ravenna from the Aryan Christians. The dome, one single piece of stone weighs 420 tons (more that you can share a stick at). They are not sure how it was put in place, but thing that the things around the edges of the dome were used as hooks to lift it. 420 tones. Lift it, huh? My money is on space aliens...

Town of Gradata and its castle. This castle was home to the Malatesta family (literally, "headache") during the middle ages. If your recall Mr. Dante Alleghery's Divine Comedy, the Inferno to be precise, two characters in the comedy, Francesca and Paolo, are in the 2nd ring of hell for their adulterous affair. This is the castle that they are rumored to have been naughty. The truth is that no one knows what happened to them, they simply disappeared. The rumors of the day said that the Husband of Francesca found her and Paolo (the brother-in-law) together and he killed them both. Well those are the rumors, and this is the castle. The castle is very near Rimini, a destination for Europe's Young and Hip.
