Copenhagen, Denmark I Copenhagen, Denmark I
Unlike Florence, Copenhagen is fairly accepting of Modern architecture. One of the most spectacular pieces of modern architecture in Copenhagen is the new public library, called the Black Diamond (because it is black and does not have any right angles. The building, which connects to the old, existing library is along the Copenhagen's main canal. This particular photograph is a detail of a fountain located beside the building (the black thing in the upper right corner is building). The "fountain" is not of a mermaid spurting water, is simply water at ground level. I liked it. To the left is the water, and to the right are the bicycle racks (and I thought that Florence had a lot of bikes...) In the middle is the drainage system, to keep the fountain water from going where it does not belong...

The above two pictures are of some stairs located inside the older part of the library. Very nice stairs, especially the top set. They remind me of Michelangelo's stairs in the Laurenteen library (I live a 3 minute walk from that library, which is in every architectural history book).
